When you’re unexpectedly bit by a dog, it can be an emotionally and physically painful experience. You may be in shock and unsure how to seek treatment or care for the wound immediately after it occurs. If you get bit by a dog on any part of your body, you’ll need to be prepared by being aware of the right actions to take to ensure you can reduce the risk of complications.

          Wash the Wound

A lot of germs and bacteria are present whenever dog bites occur, making it necessary to gently and thoroughly wash and cleanse the affected area. Use a mixture of warm water and mild soap for five to 10 minutes to reduce the risk of infections. If the dog bite is more severe, you’ll need to leave this step to medical professionals when you seek treatment. If the injury continues to bleed, you’ll need to place a clean towel over it and gently apply pressure.

          Use Antibiotic Cream

Apply antibiotic cream to help the wound heal. This is available over the counter and is easy to apply. The cream will prevent bacteria from developing to avoid staphylococcus, streptococcus, capnocytophaga, and pasteurella. Some dogs also carry rabies if they haven’t been vaccinated, which your doctor will want to discuss if you’re familiar with the dog, especially if you own it. You may need a rabies shot, especially if the dog shows signs of rabies, which includes foaming at the mouth and if it acts erratically.

You should seek medical treatment if the wound continues to bleed or if the affected area becomes extremely inflamed. A medical professional will also need to treat it if you develop a fever or if the pain continues to become more severe.

          Apply a Sterile Bandage

Once the wound is clean, apply a sterile bandage to the wound and keep it covered to protect it. You’ll need to replace the bandage every day for one week to ensure the wound continues to heal and doesn’t become infected.

After the dog bite, it’s important to immediately contact animal control to ensure the dog is captured and isn’t a threat to other people in the local area. Document everything to ensure you can pass along the details and prevent future bites from occurring. You’ll need to discuss if you know the dog, if the dog is vaccinated, and if the dog bite was provoked or unprovoked.

If a dog bite occurs, you can think clearly and have more confidence treating yourself if you know what steps to take in advance. This can make it easier to remain calm and will prevent complications from developing if you have a plan of action in place.

          Contact Animal Control

It can often be traumatizing to be involved in a car accident, especially if you’re injured. Whether you have health insurance or don’t have a policy, you may not know what steps to take. It’s important to be prepared if the unexpected occurs and you suffer physical harm.

          Seek Medical Treatment

It’s important to seek medical treatment if you’re injured to determine if you have a concussion or broken bones. Failing to obtain medical treatment can lead to complications and even put your life at risk.

          Obtain Legal Assistance

If another driver is responsible for your injuries, you’ll need to reach out to a legal professional to ensure you can obtain compensation for the medical treatment you receive. The other party is responsible for your medical bills, treatment, and even lost wages if they caused the crash. A legal professional can review the details of the case and any evidence to ensure they can seek compensation for the damages. They can also help you to settle with the other party outside of court to make it a quicker and more efficient process.

Knowing what steps to take if you’re in a car accident and need medical attention can allow you to get the help you need. With a legal professional, you can have peace of mind knowing you’ll have a chance to seek compensation for the costs you incur.

When you’ve suffered an injury, it can be difficult to continue performing normal activities at home or in the workplace. Many people also suffer from emotional trauma do the pain that they’ve experienced. If you’re the victim of a personal injury but need to return to work, there are a few main steps to take to ensure you can continue to earn a living and don’t suffer from lost wages.

Remain in Contact with Your Employer

Many people make the mistake of losing contact with their employer, which can make it easy to lose your job as you spend time recovering. Keep your employer updated about your condition, especially when your absence is approved due to your injury. You’ll need to inform the company of when you plan to return to work and what your doctor has said as they treat you. This will assure them that your injuries are real and that you’re not trying to take advantage of the time that you have off.

Obtain a Return to Work Form

Request a Return to Work form once you’re approved to work again to follow the correct protocol. This will inform your employer of any restrictions you may have to avoid putting too much strain on the injured area. There will likely be temporary or permanent restrictions in place, which your medical professional will need to determine based on the extent of your injuries and your ability to fully recover.

Avoid turning down any type of employment you’ve been offered if you have to look for a new job, which can affect your ability to collect worker’s compensation. You can also use the services of a legal professional to stay updated on your rights and avoid making any mistakes. Each state differs with the rights that you’re entitled to when you begin to receive worker’s compensation.

Avoid Returning to Work Too Soon

When you’re low on funds, it can be easy to return to work too soon, which can cause further damage to the affected area where you’ve been injured. If your doctor hasn’t cleared you to return to work, hire an attorney and obtain worker’s compensation to ensure you can continue to pay your bills. A legal professional will help to protect the benefits you’re entitled to when you’ve suffered a personal injury to avoid putting yourself at risk of further injuries.

Understanding your rights as you plan to return to work can make it easier to give yourself time to heal and protect your employment as you take time off. A personal injury attorney can also help you to navigate each step of the process to reduce the risk of losing your form of employment.

Nobody intends to have a car accident. You don’t get up in the morning and think, “This might be a good day for an accident.” That’s why it’s called an accident: an unplanned, unexpected, and unintentional incident. Many things can happen to cause car accidents, and many of those things are nobody’s fault. Sometimes things just happen. What happens if you are in a car accident while driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license? According to the law, anyone who is driving must be in possession of a valid driver’s license. There’s no way around that. But sometimes you just have to go to the store, or go to work, or any number of places.

So, you drove your car while your driver’s license was suspended or revoked, and there was an accident. What now? We can assure you, help is available. There are quite a few variables in this situation, so let’s look at them and see how we can best help you now.

How Does a Driver’s License Get Suspended or Revoked?

One of those two things can happen as a result of several things:

           No insurance on the car.

           A DUI.

           Failure to appear.

           Vandalism.

           Failure to pay child support.

Those are just a few things that can cause the loss of a license. In all those instances, there are steps you can take to get your license back, but some of them will take a bit of time.

How Can I Get My License Back?

All states have laws regarding suspended/revoked driver’s licenses. It is against the law in all states to drive without a valid driver’s license. Typically, the penalty is a misdemeanor, but in some cases it can be a felony. Some states require jail time for up to three years, while other states will only impose fees. The state of Illinois has some stiff penalties for driving or being in an accident with a suspended or revoked license:

The first offense is a misdemeanor, and that can mean up to a year in jail.

The next offense is a Class 4 Felony with 1-3 years in jail, a substantial fine of up to $25,000, and they may impound your vehicle.

The next offense involves any combination of the above, and they may take away your license plates and immobilize your vehicle.

You can do a simple Google search for information about the laws in your state, but it can be confusing to navigate the legal advice online, all while trying to determine what applies to you. We’ve all been there – it’s the end of a long workday, you’re excited to go home and relax, you stroll into your local big chain store, and suddenly, slip. You fall on the floor, head banging on the hard surface as everything goes crunch. How could this happen? This is a big store, right? There should be lots of people around. Someone would have ensured that the floor was not slippery. Well, yes, but what happens after you fall is even more important.

          Causes of Slip and Fall

Slip and fall accidents are one of the leading causes of accidents in commercial establishments. Commercial establishments include big chain stores, big box stores, grocery stores, casinos, restaurants, and bars. There are many hazards that can cause slip and fall accidents in these places. In order to reduce the number of slip and fall accidents in these establishments, it is important to know what the main cause of these accidents is.

Here are some things that can cause you to slip and fall when you visit a big chain store:

Wet Floors – Dripping water from a leaky faucet or an overflowing sink can easily make floors wet. When floors are wet, they become slippery, and this makes it hard to walk on them. In addition to that, many people use mops to clean floors in these establishments, which can add even more water onto the floor if not cleaned up every time they mop their floor. This makes floors slippery even more.

Wet Staircases – Staircases usually get damp when there is rain outside or when they are used frequently by customers.

Employees who spilled oil, grease, or other substances on the floor and did not take steps to clean up the spill or warn pedestrians about it before someone slipped and fell

Loose mats on store porches that were improperly secured and cracks between porch tiles that could cause pedestrians to trip and fall if they stepped into them while walking across a porch area

Poorly lit areas – It can be difficult for people to see where they are walking if there is not enough light in the area. If you notice that your light bulbs need replacing, get them changed immediately to prevent someone from hurting themselves.

Defective stairs – Stairs should have non-slip surfaces in order for people to walk up or down them safely. No one wants to trip on stairs or have their feet slip out from under them while walking down the steps.

When Is It Possible to Sue After a Slip and Fall?

When you have been injured in a slip and fall accident, you may have a civil claim against the store for your injuries. Keep in mind that most slip and fall accidents are caused by negligence, which means the store could be at fault. However, this is not always the case. The following are some of the slip and fall accidents that could be caused by negligence:

What Happens When You Slip and Fall?

The effects of slip and fall accidents can be devastating. Not only do these mishaps result in a painful and inconvenient injury, but they also cause emotional trauma and financial burdens. Medical bills, lost wages, property damage, and other costs associated with slip and fall injuries can be significant. An individual may be able to seek compensation for their injuries in court to recover some of these losses.

The details surrounding a slip and fall accident will determine the amount of compensation that a victim can receive for their injuries. The amount of compensation is largely based on the degree of liability determined by the court.

First, you must prove that you were injured because of someone else’s negligence. If you can show that the store was negligent in maintaining their premises, then it is likely that you would receive compensation for your injuries under a premises liability claim. This type of claim is based upon the idea that business owners have a duty to ensure that their property is safe for customers to enter.

If you were injured due to someone else’s negligence or you slipped on an area that was not maintained properly, then you should contact an experienced slip and fall lawyer who will fight aggressively to get you the compensation you deserve.

          1. First, it is important to understand that in the eyes of the law, a slip and fall accident is a personal injury case. This means that you can demand compensation for any medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering that you’ve suffered as a result of the accident.

          2. If you want to bring about a lawsuit against the owner of a property for which he or she is responsible, such as a shopping mall or retail store, then you need to consult with an experienced slip and fall attorney. However, if you are interested in reporting the incident to the police first, then you can do so by contacting your local precinct or calling 911.

          3. If your injuries are minor, then they would not require more than simply documenting the occurrence of the slip and fall accident on behalf of both parties involved. You could try to settle out of court with the store owner or property management company if you were able to obtain their contact information following your accident.

          4. If you want to sue for pain and suffering as well as medical expenses and lost wages, then you will need to pursue legal action through your local court system. However, this is not usually an easy task and requires a lot of time and energy on behalf of the injured party.

Slip and fall cases, like all personal injury cases, are dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Every situation is unique, and the circumstances surrounding every accident are different. Regardless of whether you fell on a puddle of water or the cracks in the floor were behind an employee’s desk, your rights do not differ. While the general requirements remain constant, determining fault and discovering remedies requires careful analysis of each case’s unique facts. That’s why you need to work with a knowledgeable attorney who will handle your case in a methodical way and not just chase quick payouts.

What Options Do You Have When You Slip and Fall?

In addition to slips, falls, and other injuries, some stores have been known to have employees who steal from customers or who may even commit assault against customers. If an employee assaults you because of their negligence, then it is possible that you could file a claim.

Stores can be very dark when they are open at night or during the day. If there is poor lighting, it is possible that they could be sued for not providing enough lighting or for having lights that are too dim or too bright.

Some grocery stores, especially ones with wet floors, may not clean up spilled water from carts or from customers who have dropped water on the floor. The problem with these types of cases is that the store has an obligation to keep the floors clean for their patrons.

What Rights Do You Have In a Slip and Fall Accident at a Big Chain Store?

If you have been injured in a slip and fall accident at a big chain store, you may be wondering if you are entitled to compensation. The answer is yes. It is illegal for any big chain store to allow their customers to be injured due to the negligence of their staff or the state of the store.

You can file a lawsuit against your big chain store, but only if you have been injured in your slip and fall. If you are suffering from long-term injuries, it is important that you reach out to an attorney as soon as possible so that they can help you collect all the evidence that you need to prove that your injuries were caused by the negligence of the company.

Suspended license

A suspended driver’s license means that your license to drive a motor vehicle has been put on hold or suspended, which means you can’t legally drive your car until the suspension has ended.

What is a suspended driver’s license?

A suspended driver’s license means that your license to drive a motor vehicle has been put on hold or suspended, which means you can’t legally drive your car until the suspension has ended.

What are the reasons for suspending my driving privileges?

Your state may suspend your driver’s license for several reasons, including:

Failure to pay a traffic ticket or penalty: Failing to pay a traffic ticket can not only result in the suspension of your license, but it can also affect your automobile insurance rates.

Conviction for a moving violation: If you are convicted for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, your license to drive will most likely be suspended.

Driving without insurance: Driving without insurance can result in your driver’s license suspension. Proof of financial responsibility is required in all 50 states.

What are the consequences of driving on a suspended license?

If you get caught driving on a suspended license, there can be a number of consequences:

Fines: The court can issue fines for driving on a suspended license. The fine can be based on the number of days your license was suspended.

You may lose your driving privileges for life: In some states, a suspended driver’s license can be permanently revoked. In other states, you will receive an automatic driving permit, which will give you up to six months to regain driving privileges. A permit does not allow you to drive outside of your home state.

Your insurance rates can go up: If you get caught driving on a suspended license, your car insurance company will almost certainly raise your premiums.

Jail time: You may be fined and serve jail time for driving on a suspended license. The length of your sentence will depend on the state in which you live.

Supervision: If you are a teen and you get caught driving on a suspended license, you can be placed under the supervision of the state. This probation can last for as long as two years.

Driving test: If you are a first-time offender, you may get an automatic suspension of your driving privilege. In other states, if you have previously received a suspended license, the court can suspend your driving privileges again.

In conclusion, when you get caught with a suspended license, it’s essential to know precisely what you face. Although the sentence may vary from state to state, a suspension is still an administrative punishment, and it will affect you in many ways.

Just like the name implies, a DUI checkpoint is a roadblock set up by law enforcement. The purpose of it is to find drivers who are driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. These stops can be scary, especially if you have had a few drinks before getting behind the wheel. Below I will guide and walk you through what you should do if you encounter a DUI checkpoint.

What are the signs of intoxication an officer of the law might check?

If an officer pulls you over and smells alcohol coming from your vehicle, he or she will likely investigate further. You may have a drink in your hand or by holding a cold beer. Regardless, if the officer smells alcohol, it is going to cause him or her to become suspicious that you are driving under the influence.

          What can you do?

The first thing to do is remain calm. When you see police cars and flashing lights, it can be overwhelming to think about getting pulled over. But, there are things you can do and keep in mind if you encounter a DUI checkpoint while driving under the influence.

          Remember Your Rights

First, remember that when you are pulled over at a DUI checkpoint, officers are required to inform you of your rights. If they fail to read your Miranda rights, or if they ask questions that violate your rights, any evidence they obtain can be thrown out in court.

If you are pulled over at a DUI checkpoint, or if you get stopped for suspected drunk driving elsewhere, you have the right to an attorney. Politely decline to answer any questions until your attorney arrives. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you.

You Have the Right to an Attorney

The three field sobriety tests most commonly administered by law enforcement officers include:

          Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus

The officer will ask you to follow a stimulus, such as a flashlight or a pen, with your eyes without moving your head. As you do this, the officer will look for a specific type of involuntary eye movement that can indicate impairment.

You Do Not Have to Take Field Sobriety Tests

It’s a good idea to avoid driving while under the influence, but if you find yourself at a DUI checkpoint and you’re under the influence, there are some things you can do to prevent being arrested.

First of all, do not run through a checkpoint or make an illegal U-turn to avoid a checkpoint. These actions will almost always result in your arrest.

If approaching a checkpoint, slow down and turn on your hazard lights. Roll down your passenger window and place both hands on the steering wheel. If it’s dark outside, turn on your interior lights. Do not reach for anything inside of your car until asked by an officer.

Politely and directly answer the officer’s questions

          Odor of Alcohol

          Bloodshot Eyes

          Open Containers

While bloodshot eyes do not necessarily mean that you are drunk, they do indicate that something may be wrong with you. Those who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol often have bloodshot eyes. The officer may inquire about whether or not you have used drugs or consumed any alcohol.

If an officer is walking by your car, he or she may notice open containers of alcohol in your vehicle. Even if those open containers are empty, it will alert the officer to investigate further. He or she may ask if you have been drinking and then proceed to administer field sobriety tests and possibly a breathalyzer test as well.

You’ll be instructed to walk heel-to-toe along a straight line for several steps, turn around, and walk back in the same manner. This is designed to test your balance and ability to perform divided attention tasks. An officer might also ask you to count aloud while performing the test.

          Walk and Turn

          One Leg Stand

You’ll be asked to stand on one leg while counting aloud. Officers will look for indicators of impairment such as swaying, using arms for balance, or hopping in order to maintain balance.

Do not make an illegal U-turn or run through a checkpoint

Do not volunteer for a search

Although it is advisable not to volunteer information, such as admitting that you were drinking alcohol or taking drugs before driving, the officer has the right to ask questions during the stop, and it is within your best interest to politely and directly answer these questions. If the officer asks if you have been drinking alcohol or taking drugs, this is your opportunity to say “no” and explain why your eyes appear bloodshot.

The officer may ask if he/she can search your car. You should say no unless the officer has probable cause (reasonable grounds) to believe that there is something illegal in your car (such as evidence of drug dealing).

Probable cause usually means that there is some other reason for the officer to believe that your car contains drugs, alcohol, or other illegal items, such as the smell of marijuana coming from your car or erratic driving that might indicate that you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If an officer finds something illegal in your car during a legal search, it can be used against you, even if it was found during an illegal search.

The bottom line is that DUI checkpoints are designed to catch drunk drivers and keep the roads safe. This can be a scary situation, but it’s important to remain calm and focus on getting through the checkpoint safely. And if you happen to encounter a police checkpoint and are under the influence, do what you have to do to get safely home before risking it again.

Everyone is familiar with the concept of traffic tickets and why drivers receive them. However, if you’re new to the road and have never had to deal with one of these citations, you may not realize the aftermath of receiving one. Even after you’ve paid the fee for your traffic violation, you may not be quite out of the woods yet. Depending on your personal situation and the context of the ticket, there may be several hidden costs that arise afterward. If you do receive a traffic citation, you should be aware of the potential follow-up issues and costs.

          1. Increased Auto Insurance Premiums

Your auto insurance premiums are the monthly payments you have to make to keep your vehicle covered. While there are numerous variables that determine how much you have to pay for your premiums, the way you drive can have a direct effect. Depending on the nature of your traffic tickets and how many violations you’ve racked up, you may see an increase in your monthly premiums after the fact. For example, if you’ve received multiple speeding tickets over the last year or two, that tells your car insurance provider that you may be a high risk for a collision. To compensate for that risk, they may demand that you pay more for your coverage. The specifics of how a traffic violation can impact your insurance premiums can vary from state to state and from provider to provider. Some insurance companies will have a one-free-strike rule. In that case, you won’t receive any change in your premiums from your first traffic ticket, but you will if you incur any others. After you’ve paid off your traffic ticket, you’d be wise to check with your auto insurance provider to find out if your monthly premiums have gone up.

          2. Increased Life Insurance Premiums

Many drivers have no idea that receiving traffic tickets can affect their life insurance policy, but in certain cases, it can do just that. It completely depends on your policy and provider, but some life insurance companies will view traffic violations in the same way that your auto insurance provider does. Usually, though, only instances of reckless driving or extreme speeding violations will be serious enough to spur action from your life insurance provider. However, if they see that you’re regularly driving recklessly, they may view you as a riskier person to insure. Unfortunately, traffic accidents are a very common cause of fatalities. So, if your insurance company thinks you’re a real risk for getting in a serious collision, they may feel the need to mitigate their financial risk. As a result, you may see your life insurance premiums go up after paying for your ticket.

          3. The Cost of Attending Driving School

In the case of some traffic violations, a judge may offer you the opportunity to have it dropped from your record, provided you attend driving school classes. Essentially, if you demonstrate a commitment to becoming a safer and more responsible driver, you won’t need to have the stain of the traffic ticket on your driving record long-term. Because having traffic violations on your record can have repercussions down the road, you may find that it’s worth it to pay for and attend driving school. If you plan to work in driving-related jobs in the future, it may be worth it to have your ticket expunged from your driving history. As an added benefit, attending and completing driving school may provoke your auto insurance provider to lower your premiums. The price of taking these classes will vary, but it will likely be several hundred dollars to complete the full course.

It’s possible that receiving one or more traffic violations could cause you to lose a job opportunity or, in rare cases, even lose your current job. If you work as a driver in rideshare, transport, delivery, or any other similar position, it’s possible that having a traffic ticket pop up on your record will result in your termination. This is a rare occurrence and will most likely only happen in the case of reckless driving instances. Alternatively, if you’re applying for a job in the near future, having one or more violations in your driving history may be what disqualifies you. If your potential employer is trying to narrow down their candidates, they may turn to something like driving record to serve as a tiebreaker of sorts.

          4. The Cost of Losing a Job Opportunity

As you can see, receiving a traffic violation can bring with it several downsides that many drivers don’t consider. If it wasn’t clear already, these hidden costs really show that it isn’t worth it to drive recklessly or carelessly. Not only will you be stuck with one or more of the consequences listed above, but you could also end up getting in a collision and being seriously injured. If you do find yourself in that situation and you’re in the

This is a scary situation for two main reasons. The first reason is that the driver likely doesn’t have the funds to pay for your damages. The second reason is that you now must deal with the situation yourself. If your insurance company finds out about it, you will probably lose your no-claims bonus, and your premiums might increase significantly. What can you do to get back on track before things get worse? To understand this situation, you must first understand the types of insurance available for motorists.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP): Required by no-fault states, personal injury protection covers medical bills and lost wages regardless of fault. It may also cover funeral expenses or loss of services because of an injury. You can purchase additional personal injury protection that exceeds these state requirements.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists: If you’re involved in an accident with a driver who doesn’t have insurance or doesn’t have enough insurance to cover your expenses, this part of your policy will cover your costs. This can include medical bills and lost wages resulting from the accident.

Liability insurance covers you if you’re in an accident deemed to be your fault. It will cover repairs to damaged property and medical bills resulting from injury to the other driver and their passengers. Liability insurance does not cover your vehicle or injuries.

          What can you do?

Car accidents happen all the time, but there are times when a collision is not the fault of either driver. What happens if you get hit by an uninsured driver? In most situations, a person who causes an accident is held responsible for any damage to vehicles or personal property. If that person does not have insurance, then they can be held personally responsible for these damages.

Unfortunately, even though every state requires drivers to buy insurance, there are still many people out there driving without it. If you are in an accident caused by someone who does not have insurance, it may be difficult to get your insurance company to pay for the damages. However, there are some things you can do to protect yourself and your assets in such a situation.

Call your insurance company for help

Make sure the police are called

          Get the other driver’s information

Hire a lawyer to help guide you through the process

File a claim with your own car insurance company. Most states require drivers to have liability insurance, which covers injuries and property damage they might cause others in an accident. However, some people have only minimal coverage or none at all.

If another driver hits you and doesn’t have enough insurance for the damages he caused, then your own policy could pay for some or all of your property damage and medical bills through uninsured motorist coverage. That’s why it’s important to carry as much uninsured motorist insurance as possible — it protects you from drivers who don’t have enough coverage themselves.

If you are in an accident with an uninsured driver, always make sure that the police are involved in some way. The more evidence you have that another driver is at fault, the better your chances with your car insurance company. In most states, you can file a claim even if this happens in a parking lot or on private property where there were no police present. However, having an official report is always helpful when pursuing a claim for repairs.

If you’re hit by an uninsured driver and choose to file a claim with your own insurer, it will be treated as an at-fault accident. However, if your insurer can’t collect damages from the other driver, they may consider this accident not at fault and reverse some or all of the surcharges.

In other words, if you’re hit by an uninsured motorist, it’s in your best interest to call the police and get the other driver’s information — name, address, phone number, registration number, license plate number, and the insurance company. Your insurer may be able to recoup some or all of its losses from the uninsured motorist fund in your state.

If you’ve been hit by an uninsured driver, you may think you don’t need an attorney. After all, they don’t have insurance, so what’s the point of hiring a lawyer? However, there are a number of reasons why it’s actually better to hire a lawyer:

Having a lawyer can help you get more money than you could on your own. Insurance companies often make lowball offers to people who are not represented. A good personal injury attorney knows how to negotiate for a higher settlement.

A good personal injury attorney takes the burden of dealing with the insurance company off your shoulders. All you have to do is show up to appointments and pick up any paperwork from your lawyer — no phone calls or meetings with adjusters.

Attorneys know the law and will help guide you through the process. They know what evidence to gather and how to present it in a way that maximizes your chances of getting money from the other driver or their insurance company.

When you get hit by someone who doesn’t have car insurance, the ensuing situation can be confusing. But it’s also not as complicated as it might seem–if you know what to expect. Above is what to do if you’re ever in an auto accident with an uninsured driver.

Everybody needs to let loose once in a while. After working, attending classes, parenting, or all of the above for the whole week, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to unwind and party on the weekend. However, if we aren’t careful, it’s very easy for that great time with friends to lead to bad and even harmful decisions. When you or someone you know decides to get behind the wheel while intoxicated, that’s when the situation is no longer okay. That’s why it’s imperative that whenever you party, you have a plan for safe, sober transportation. It can save lives.

To ensure that you have a willing designated driver or other means of safe transportation, your best bet is to plan in advance. As soon as you know that you’ll be drinking, your next move should be to figure out how you and your friends will be getting home. Below, we’ll discuss a few of the ways you can make sure that no one needs to put themselves at risk for an accident or DUI once the partying is finished.

          1. Create an Alternating System

If there’s a group of people that you’re partying with on a regular basis, consider creating a system in which you all take turns being the designated driver. That way, if everyone in the group enjoys drinking, you can ensure that no one is having to miss out on it more often than anyone else. Nobody in your friend group will be able to argue with the system’s fairness, and you’ll always know ahead of time who is getting everyone home. If you’re partying in a larger group, you may need to have two people scheduled at a time, but figuring out the specific logistics shouldn’t be overly difficult. You’ll have to trust in the honor system to effectively utilize this method, so make sure you only do so with people that you know well and trust. There may be times when the person who’s scheduled to drive doesn’t attend the party; in that case, you can ask for fill-in volunteers or move to the next person in line. Of course, the person who was originally scheduled will still need to step up for the next night out!

          2. Use a Rideshare Service

If you and your friends have one of the many affordable rideshare apps available on your phones, there’s no reason that anyone should feel the need to drive while intoxicated. The popular rideshare services have numerous drivers in every major area of the country. Regardless of whose house or which bar you’re partying at, you can promptly have a driver arriving to pick you and your friends up with only a few taps. To keep things fair and everyone happy, either split the cost of the service or take turns paying for it.

          3. Incentivize Designated Driving

In most cases, you and your friends would probably rather have a few drinks at the party than stay sober and be the chauffeur. However, for most people, a modest payment can quickly change that mindset. Before the party really gets going, offer a monetary incentive for anyone willing to be a designated driver at the end of the night. One great way to do so is to have the partygoers each contribute a few dollars toward the cause. More often than not, you’ll have several people willing to refrain from drinking and get everyone home safely.

This method isn’t for everyone, as some people really enjoy getting drunk. However, if you and the people you party with aren’t as focused on the alcohol consumption aspect of the experience, keeping the drinking to a minimum may be a viable strategy. If you ensure that no one at the party has more than a drink or two, everyone should be sober enough to drive safely at the end of the night. If you go this route, it’s imperative that everyone attending the party knows about it in advance, or you may face some unhappy resistance to the plan.

          4. Limit Drinking at the Party

Oftentimes, when people make the mistake of driving drunk, they forget that they have loved ones who care deeply about their safety. If they had simply made a phone call asking a friend or family member for a ride, they could have avoided a dangerous error. There’s a good chance you and your friends have people in your life who would be willing to help get you home safely. Before you party, consider making an arrangement with a friend, parent, or another family member who would be willing to pick you and your friends up at the end of the night. That way, if your other designated driver plans fall through, you have a safe and reliable option that’s only a phone call away.

In the moment, drunk driving may seem like it’s no big deal. Even after having four or five drinks, you or your friends may feel like you’re completely fine to get behind the wheel. However, it simply isn’t worth it. If not for your own safety and the wellbeing of your family, consider the many other people on the road that you’d be putting at risk with such a decision. There are many ways you can go about avoiding that mistake, and it doesn’t matter which one you choose. What matters is that you put a high priority on you and your friends getting home safely. Legal matters can be confusing and overwhelming, especially if you’re not familiar with the legal system. When it’s time to file a lawsuit or defend yourself, it helps to know when to hire an attorney. But whether you should hire an attorney depends largely on your specific circumstances. Here are a few signs that hiring an attorney might be the right decision.

          Vehicle Accidents

The most common reason someone hires a lawyer is to help them with a car accident claim. Car accidents typically result in some type of injury, and it’s not always clear who’s at fault. It’s important to get a lawyer involved as soon as possible if you’ve been in an accident because it can take time to gather evidence and assess your injuries.

Why Do You Need a Lawyer for Vehicle Accidents?

There are several reasons why you may want to consult a lawyer about your vehicle accident:

The insurance company is not offering a fair amount for your injuries and property damage

           You have serious injuries

The accident was complicated by the other driver’s intoxication or criminal behavior

You are being sued by the other driver

An experienced personal injury lawyer can help you get the compensation you deserve after being injured in a vehicle accident. A good lawyer will investigate your case thoroughly and collect all of the evidence needed to prove your claim. They will then negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf and fight to get you what you deserve.

Suing for medical negligence requires expertise that most people don’t have — including an understanding of the applicable laws and how to prove medical mistakes occurred (and directly caused harm).

          Medical Malpractice

If you’ve been injured because of medical or dental malpractice, you should not delay contacting an attorney. The fact is that the legal process is complicated, and there are many factors to consider. You may suffer lost wages, medical bills, pain, and suffering as a result of your injuries. A lawyer will help make sure you receive compensation for all the harm done to you or your loved one.

You need to hire a lawyer, particularly if your employer is an influential or well-known company that has its own team of lawyers. An attorney can help you present your case clearly and convincingly in court and protect your interests throughout the proceedings.

How Can a Lawyer Help With Vehicle Accidents?

How Can a Lawyer Help With Medical Malpractice?

Why Do You Need a Lawyer for Employment Disputes?

A lawyer can help guide you through the process of setting up your business, ensuring that you comply with all relevant laws and regulations. They can also help ensure that you aren’t making common mistakes when starting a small business, like using contracts incorrectly or relying too heavily on verbal agreements. If there are any disputes later on down the line, they can also serve as an effective mediator between parties.

The purpose when hiring a legal professional is to help you avoid money loss and other negative outcomes. Having an attorney can also mean that your assets or rights are preserved. You may not be able to avoid all legal issues, but having an attorney by your side will definitely assist you in getting the best possible outcome for your situation.

How Can a Lawyer Help With Criminal Charges?

A lawyer can advise on whether or not the police had probable cause to make an arrest or conduct a search. If they did not have probable cause, then a lawyer may be able to argue that any evidence found as a result of the unlawful arrest or search must be excluded from your trial. This could turn the case in your favor and lead to dropped or reduced charges.

          Employment Disputes

There are a lot of different ways this can go — wrongful termination is just one example. Employment issues can also involve contract disputes, sexual harassment claims, and more. Any time your job is on the line, you should at least consult with an attorney to see if there’s anything you can do about it.

Many people believe that they do not need a lawyer unless they are guilty, but this is not true. A lawyer can be beneficial in a variety of ways, even if you are innocent. They can help you understand the charges against you and how to proceed with your case so that you can reach the best possible outcome for your situation.

Wills and trusts are among the most important documents you will create in your lifetime. These documents allow you to control what happens to your assets after you die or become incapacitated. They also allow you to have a say in who will be responsible for raising your children.

A lawyer can help make sure that your wishes are written down correctly and that all of the necessary steps are taken to ensure that they carry out your wishes after you pass away.

It is possible to write your own Will, but it is very difficult because of the many legal requirements you must follow. It is easy to make mistakes, such as not signing the Will correctly or not having it witnessed by the right people. A lawyer will make sure everything is done correctly so that there is no question about what your wishes are.

Starting a business is a complicated process. You need to register your business with the local or state government and make sure that you follow all rules, regulations, and laws. You also need to make sure that you’re in compliance with any contract terms, whether it’s your lease, supplier agreements, or distributor contracts.

Routine traffic stops can be pretty benign and banal. However, the drama is ramped up if you say something you shouldn’t. The most important thing you should do in a routine traffic stop is say nothing. Respond only to the questions the officer asks in the simplest of answers. This generally means “yes,” “no,” or “I don’t know.”

Refusing to give lengthy answers that might catapult into the territory of downright lying protects your rights during a traffic stop. Not giving the police any reason to push or pursue matters and/or escalate the situation means you can be on your way a lot sooner. Be polite and succinct. Whatever you do, never say the following four things to a police officer during a traffic stop.

          1. Volunteer That You Have Firearms in Your Vehicle

As far as the officer is concerned, you may or may not have firearms in your vehicle. Officers are always trained to expect that there is a weapon, even when there’s not. Volunteering that you actually have a weapon in the vehicle will force the officer’s hand in asking you to step out of the vehicle for a search, and you definitely don’t want that.

          2. Agree to Allow the Officer to Search Your Vehicle

The police cannot search your vehicle without your permission. Volunteering that option or giving the officer permission to search your vehicle makes you look suspicious, and the officer will definitely take advantage of your offer. This puts you in a very precarious position, especially if the officer finds any violations of the law in your vehicle (e.g., weapons, open alcoholic beverages, containers with no labels requiring the officer to do a “sniff test,” drugs-whether or not they are legal in your state, etc.).

          3. Argue With the Officer About What You Were Pulled Over For

This is just stupid from the get-go. The officer knows how fast you were going, knows whether or not you have been drinking, knows if you have a taillight out, etc.. If he or she argues that you were going 30 over the speed limit and you argue that you know exactly how fast you were going and it wasn’t 30 over the limit, the officer has got you coming and going. It’d be hard to argue in court that you don’t owe that speeding ticket. Just don’t argue at all. If you hold your tongue you might even get off with a warning.

Your license should always be on your person. You never leave home without it. If you don’t have it because it’s suspended or revoked, don’t volunteer that information. It’s better to suggest that you forgot it. Chances are, the officer will look you up in the system and figure it out soon enough, and then you haven’t incriminated yourself.

          4. Tell an Officer You Don’t Have Your License

If you didn’t really do anything wrong and you haven’t said the wrong things during your traffic stop, it may be possible to hire a lawyer to contest the fine/ticket. Contact

You may be thinking, ‘how long does my license stay suspended?’ and ‘what do I do?’ If you have a suspended license, you will be unable to drive a car or any other type of vehicle. If you use your vehicle for daily commutes, it might be time to start calling your attorney. Some drivers may decide to ignore the rules. If you took such risks and got pulled over, the repercussions would be severe. Contact

A suspended license is when you are prohibited from driving your car or any other vehicle. It can be a horrible situation, but you can manage to reinstate a suspended license if you have reliable legal representation. Also, the time it will take to reinstate your license may depend on the reason for its suspension. Also, the state in which you reside could determine the chances of your license being reinstated.

Any time a driving-related charge is filed against you, your license can be suspended. If you are charged with a traffic violation and the arresting officer seizes your driver’s license, your license will be automatically suspended. The situation is known as a “seizure.” You will likely get your license back after a few months.

It might be days, weeks, or months. You will likely have to attend a court hearing to get your license back. In this case, legal representation from

What if You’re Pulled Over and Your License Is Suspended?

It is a criminal offense to drive with a suspended license, which could lead to heavy penalties. Driving under a suspended license could lead to a first, second, or third-degree criminal act, each having different consequences.

The third degree is the least serious and could result from minor charges. It could be an unpaid ticket, failed child support, or getting into a scuffle with a neighbor.

The second degree could lead to a gross misdemeanor and a one-year jail sentence. It could also attract a $5000 fine. If caught driving with a suspended license, driving carelessly, or driving under the influence, you will receive this punishment.

The most severe is the first-degree charge and is caused by one being a habitual traffic offender (HTO). Also, if you have been charged with three traffic offenses within five years, the penalties could include a $5000 fine, one-year jail sentence, or a gross misdemeanor.

If you are found not guilty, your license will be automatically reinstated after 10 days. If you are charged with a traffic violation, and the arresting officer seals your driver’s license, you will likely get it back after a few months. The length of your suspension will depend on your state, so contact your attorney to get more information.

How Long Does a Suspension Last?

If you are found driving under the influence, and your blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08 or higher, you will likely be charged or cited for DUI. Some states only charge you if you are over the legal limit when you drive.

If you are convicted of DUI, your license will likely be suspended for a minimum of one year. If you are charged and your license is not reinstated within 30 days, you can file a motion to have it permanently revoked. In this case, the court will have to decide the fate of your privileges.

A judge can rule on this motion, called an “absolute” or “permanent” revocation, only if there is no chance of having your license reinstated before the case ends. If your license is to be automatically revoked after 10 days, you can file a motion to have it set aside. It is called a “summary” revocation. If you file a summary revocation motion, a judge can rule on it even if you were not found guilty of a crime.

What if Your License Is Suspended for Driving Under the Influence?

Some states require drivers to pass a road test before their license is reinstated. Others allow the DMV to reinstate your license 15 days after taking the written test or paying a fee.

You should not risk driving with a suspended license as the consequences can be severe. The results of a suspended license may also depend on your state and the circumstances of you getting the license suspended. As you try to reinstate your license, you will have to attend hearings, collect evidence, or negotiate with the prosecutors. You can’t do this alone, so ensure you get reputable attorneys to serve as your representation.

An expert personal injury attorney will be able to direct you to specialists who can treat you immediately and will not be compensated until your automobile accident lawsuit is resolved. Expect that the other party’s auto insurance will not send you to physicians or arrange for medical care on your behalf.

          Coverage for Medical Payments

Specific vehicle and property insurance contracts include a provision known as medical payment insurance. “Med pay” coverage pays for the medical expenses of the person(s) wounded in an accident caused by the covered, up to the policyholder “med pay” policy limitations, which are often less than $10,000.

You will be liable for paying your expenses after they surpass the “med pay” policy’s restrictions. If that person’s insurer includes “med pay,” that person’s insurance will pay at least several of your medical costs.

          Insurance Without Fault

In around a dozen jurisdictions, no-fault vehicle insurance exists, implying that your motor insurer will cover part or all of your healthcare bills and missed wages if you are involved in a car accident, irrespective of whose fault.

A claim made in the absence of no health insurance is often referred to as a Personal Injury Protection (PIP) claim. However, each state’s statute is unique. In particular “no-fault” jurisdictions, your insurance will pay up to a certain amount of medical expenditures; there is no cap in many others. Consequently, if you are implicated in a vehicle accident in a location that does not need a no-fault policy or stumble on someone else’s property, you should inquire about the other party’s “med pay” coverage.

Negotiate With Your Health Insurance Provider

If you are under-insured or your household income does not exceed 350 percent of the federal poverty threshold, hospitals are required by California law to bargain with patients. As a result, you may arrange a reduction or payment plan. Another possibility is that a provider may provide a healthcare lien, which functions similarly to credit. A hospital lien may be given to an individual who is not covered by another program, cannot pay insurance or co-pays, or is otherwise unable to pay for necessary medical treatment.

While you are still obtaining medical care, your automobile insurance company will not cover the ambulance travel and emergency room treatment. They will want to settle your complete physical injury claim, including any claim for pain and misery, before paying any of your medical expenditures.

          Conclusion

In those first shocking moments following a rear-end accident, you may respond with a primal urge to chase the vehicle. Avoid that response at all costs. Instead, use the six-step response described below to maximize your safety and that of the other drivers on the road.

Let the police track the hit-and-run driver down. Your focus should remain on your health and that of your passengers. Let’s review the safest, most appropriate response to a rear-end hit-and-run accident.

          1. Note Vehicle Details

Note the make and model of the vehicle if you can see it. Also, note the license plate as the vehicle drives away, write it down or speak it into your phone’s voice recorder when possible. If you just need to rely on memory, do the best you can.

          2. Move Your Vehicle to a Safe Area on the Road’s Shoulder

If your vehicle stopped in a traffic lane, move it to the shoulder of the road if it can still operate. Quickly getting your vehicle out of the movement of traffic keeps you and others safer.

          3. Phone 911 Immediately

Phone 911 to report the accident and request assistance. Apprise the 911 operator that the at-fault driver left the scene. Provide as much description of the vehicle and as much of the license plate as possible. Do this while it remains fresh in your mind.

Let the paramedics examine you when they arrive. If they recommend that you visit the hospital, accompany them in the ambulance. Do not try to drive yourself there.

          4. Have Paramedics Examine You

Provide the police with as much detail as you can when they arrive. In some cases, the severity of your injuries may preclude you from speaking with them at the accident scene. They will typically speak with you at the hospital after you receive treatment.

          5. Provide Detailed Information to the Police

Cameras are nearly everywhere people go, from convenience stores to shopping centers to event locations. Today, some businesses require that their drivers utilize a dash cam, and most law enforcement officers’ vehicles are equipped with dash cams. While one may not think a dash cam in a police vehicle can assist one’s case should they be accused of a crime, those who find themselves accused of wrongdoing have a tool at their disposal – a dash cam.

Can I use a dash cam as a defense in my case?

Can a dash cam be utilized in one’s defense in court? Research shows that, when a dash cam is relevant to the crime one is accused of perpetrating, the footage from a dash cam is considered credible evidence and can be utilized in one’s defense. There are a couple of other considerations, however. Most judges will allow for the use of dash cam footage as long as it is recorded in a public place. Furthermore, defendants must be able to show that the footage was recorded at the time of the incident in question. If you as a driver happen to have a dash cam, then you’ll also need to prove that it is indeed your personal dash cam that recorded the footage. One’s attorney can subpoena dash cam evidence as well.

What might make my footage inadmissable?

One must also remember that the footage must be of suitable quality as well. Grainy footage may not be acceptable. Low-quality footage (those with poor lighting, for instance) may be ruled inadmissable as well. It’s also important to note that, should you be accused of a crime in relation to a motor vehicle accident, you’ll want to ensure that the moments leading up to the accident are available on the footage.

Some jurisdictions may not allow for dash cam footage to be utilized, but, overall, most states will allow for dash cam footage as evidence in both civil and criminal cases. Also, if the footage is reviewed and it is determined that someone has edited the footage or otherwise altered it, the judge may rule the footage inadmissable. Finally, if you are recording and the dash cam picks up a conversation with another person prior to the incident, the footage may not be acceptable evidence as the usage could constitute a violation of the second person’s privacy.

Can dash cam footage be used against me?

One should also keep in mind that dash cam evidence can be used against a defendant in a criminal or civil case. Some describe dash cam footage as a double-edged sword, and it can be. This is why it’s important for those involved in a suit to consult a knowledgeable attorney who can not only procure the footage (if it’s not your own) and determine whether it can help or hurt your case.

So, how can a dash cam help a person accused of wrongdoing? There are two chief ways a dash cam can help the accused’s case. First, the dash cam evidence may be able to prove there was no crime committed or no wrongdoing on the part of the accused. Second, a dash cam can help to highlight problematic areas in the case.

First, let’s look an example of how the dash cam can prove there is no wrongdoing. If an individual is charged with reckless driving, for instance, possessing one’s own dash cam can prove that the driver was indeed driving properly. Again, some defendants may subpoena police footage. Defendants who are confident they were not recklessly driving can ask for the dash cam footage as a part of the discovery process. If the footage shows that there was no evidence of improper driving, then the use of the footage is to the defendant’s benefit.

If you have an upcoming case and you have dash cam evidence, it’s always smart to contact an attorney about using the footage in your case. Whether you need assistance in obtaining dash cam footage or you have footage of your own, meeting with an attorney can determine how valuable the dash cam footage is to your upcoming case.

A dash cam can prove you did nothing wrong.
